On the invitation of Sher-e-Kashmir Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah, veteran Congress leaders like Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan arrived in Srinagar on August 1, 1945 A.D to participate in the 6th annual session of National Conference held at Sopore from August 3, 1945 A.D on August 1, The National leaders, while being taken in a boat procession from Chattabal to LalMandi, were insulted at Zaina Kadal by Muslim Conference workers and a clash between the two groups (workers of National Conference and Muslim Conference) erupted resulting in the death of a National Conference worker. The action was widely condemned and a resolution to this effect was passed at Sopore session of National Conference.

On August 16, 1945,a meeting of standing committee of All India States People’s Conference was held at Mujahid Manzil and the members, with one voice, passed a resolution that over-all welfare of the people is the ultimate goal of the struggle.

In the year 1944, Maharaja Hari Singh, on the advice of Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, decided to involve the elected representatives in the State Administration and accordingly invited National Conference to nominate a member, from its elected members to Praja Sabha, to be inducted in State Cabinet. National Conference accepted the offer and nominated Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg for ministrail berth but he could continue for one and a half year only where upon he registered from the cabinet as P.W.D. Minister on protest, as little funds were provided to him for execution of the development works. But the National Conference had to suffer a set back in the party discipline when one of its members in Praja Sabha namely Ahmad Yar Khan was bried to replace Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg. He was condemened for this behaviour and expelled from the party.
