PT. J.L. NEHRU’S VISIT TO KASHMIR:

Acknowledging the help of leaders of Indian National Congress to the freedom struggle in Kashmir, Kh. Gulam Mohammad Sadiq, the President of National Conference remarked that it was from the historic session of the Indian National Congress held under the Chairmanship of Pt. J.L. Nehru at Lahore in 1931 that the Kashmiri Youth derived inspiration and pledged to launch an Organised movement to get rid of autocratic rule of Maharaja Hari Singh and to set-up a socialistic pattern of government. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru would always welome a dialogue with leaders of Kashmir and would postpone all his engagements whenever any leaders of Kashmir would approach him to seek his guidance. Sardar Patel very often remarked that Pandit ji loves Kashmir more than India. For this gesture,Pt. J.L.Nehru earned a great fame in Kashmir and was most respected among all the Indian leaders.During his visit to Kashmir in June 1940,he was given such a reception which will be remembered for all years to come.He stayed here for ten days as guest of National Conference and delivered speeches advising the people to remain united and strengthen the National Conference as their future is safe with this party and its leadership. This further strengthed the ties of friendship between the two parties.
