BHIMA SINGH ARDALI (1831 A.D)
Conscious of his weakness as being revenue carrier from Kripa Ram to Maharaja Ranjit Singh,Bhima Singh Ardali could not introduce any administrative reform during his tenure of one year, rather he had spent his time in dealing with an ugly situation of worst kind of sectarian clashes between Shias and Sunis. Business establishments, particularly of shawl weavers, were targeted during the roits and there was a heavy loss of property, which shattered the economy of the State. Contemporary historians have given vivid details of clashes among the followers of Shia and Sunni communities.Ranjit Singh who was disturbed to learn about the damages caused by Shawl Industry which was the main source of revenue to the State, immediately recalled Bhima Singh and decided to appoint a prince of his flesh and blood as a Governor of Kashmir. The choice fell on his son Kanwar Sher Singh who had distinguished himself as a brave commander in the battle against Syed Ahmad a leader of Muslim revivalist movement in the frontier.
