Earlier also Shah-i-Hamdan had visited the valley twice during the reign of Sultan Shihab-ud-din but  during his third visit he brought  700 Sayyids with him and stationed them at different places to preach Islam and introduced reforms in social set up.Sultan was himself impressed by Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani and extended royal patronage to him and even spent most of his time in meditation and prayers

During the early part of his reign, the king had to suppress the rebellion of prince Hassan, who, with the help and support of the minister Udhayasri tried to capture the throne of Kashmir. The king also had deal with rebellious chief of Lahore. Sultan Qutub-ud-din founded the town of Qutab-ud-din Pora which presently forms a part of Srinagar city.
