SULTAN SHIHAB-UD-DIN (1354-1373 A.D)

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
An able administrator and a mighty conqueror, Shihab-ud-din has been rightly called, the Lalitadity of Medieval Kashmir. After consolidating his position on the throne of Kashmir, the king set out to conquer the neighbouring principalities and extended his sway over the territories of Gilgit, Dardistan and Baltistan to north, Ladakh to the east , Kishtiwar, Jammu Chamba and other hill states to the south and most of northern and western Punjab and the Peshawar District to the west.He thereby minimized the chances of attack on Kashmir by war lords like Damaras, Eknagas,Lavanyas etc., as they were mustering their support from these territories. He is also credited with the conquests of many other neighbouring countries, by latter chronicles but there is no contemporary evidence to corroborate it.
