THE LOHARA DYNASTY: SANGRAMARAJA (1003-1028 A.D.)
The system as established by Queen Didda needed a strong and capable ruler but Sangramaraja, through prudent, was weak and, as such not a better choice for the throne of Kashmir. From the very outset of his rule he was confronted with the problem posed by disgruntled ministers and Brahmans ho were deprived of their privileges by Queen Didda.
The king had also to live under the constant threat from Ghaznavida Turks who had extended their sway in the north-west of India. The army dispatched from Kashmir to help the forces of trilochanpala against Turks suffered a defeat at the hands of Mohmud of Ghaznavi. Encouraged by this success, Mohammed latter attempted twice to conquer Kashmir but on both the occasions his designs were frustrated by heavy snowfall which blocked the mountain passes leading to the valley.
