YASASKARA (939-948)
His reign of about nine years was to large extent peaceful.He resorted the authority of the crown and put down, with firm hand, the recalcitrant countries and barons. Thieves and robbers were severely punished,the measure ensured the safe journey of traders to distant lands. Due attention was paid for the development of agriculture.
The King had great sense of justice. Neither birth nor rank could protect an offender from the punishment which his guilt merited. Kalhan Pandit in Rajatarangi comments on his patronage of learned men generosity for literary activities.
But his personal life was not free from flaw. His relation with women ,other than his wife, contributed a lot towards his downfall. Even he lost control and confidence over his children and installed his cousin Varnata on the throne who was also deposed by intriguing minister Parvagupta only after one day.
