PRATAPADITY-II
After the death of Durlabhavardhan in 633 A.D his son Pratapaditya-II, also known as Durlabhaka, ascended the throne of Kashmir and struck coins in his name. To run the administration efficiently, he sought the help and guidance of efficient men and entrusted the administration of various departments to them. Peace and tranquility during his reign, attracted traders from the neighbouring countries which gave a boost to the country’s economy.Congenial atmosphere in the country and hospitable attitude of the king encouraged many outside traders to settle in the valley and the famous among them was Nona, a trader from Rohtak with whose wife the king later on married. Three sons, namely Vajraditya, Udhayaditya and Lalitaditya born from his wife were destined to rule the country after the death of their father.
Excavations carried out at Tapar in 1942 A.D., reveal that the king had built at this place a magnificient town, named Prataparora, which foremed his capital and erected a beautiful temple here.
