RURAL URBAN DRIFT

There has been population drift from rural area to urban areas right from the very beginning. The main reasons associated with the drift are attributed to the adequate developments of roads, banking, communication,insurance, besides better employment avenues, medical and educational facilities along with availability of items of livelihoods which ultimately has resulted in emerging of new towns and housing  colonies in the region. Rural and Urban population from 1901 to 1991 of the region is represented in table as follows:

Table depicts the constant increased in the urban population right from the very inception of regular census collection in the year 1901. Comperatively speaking, the urban population has increased nine times in1991 with the corresponding figure of 1901 of Kashmir division of the State.
